MUNCIE, Ind. -- The FBI is conducting an investigation at the Muncie Sanitary District offices, a spokesperson with the city of Muncie said Thursday morning.
The FBI confirmed the investigative activity in the "Muncie area," but wouldn't comment on the exact location, or why they are in the area.
Earlier this year, the FBI searched the building commissioner's office in Muncie. Agents removed boxes marked "building permits" and "monthly reports" from 2015 and 2016.
A couple weeks later, federal agents arrested the Muncie building commissioner, Craig Nichols.

Thursday afternoon, the city of Muncie released a statement on the investigation:
"The City of Muncie has fully cooperated and intends to continue to fully cooperate with the FBI investigation. The City of Muncie became aware of law enforcement activity being conducted at one of the Muncie Sanitary District's locations today through media reports. The City of Muncie has not been made aware of the reasons for the law enforcement activity at this time. Media requests for comments should be directed to the Muncie Sanitary District."
