INDIANAPOLIS -- The hostage situation on Indy's west side ended peacefully after the suspect surrendered to police.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department SWAT team responded to a hostage situation on the city's west side Wednesday evening.

Parole officers arrived in the 1700 block of Lafayette Road to take in 44-year-old Tracy Lloyd sometime after 5 p.m., but said they heard screams and threats at the door.

Police later declared the situation as a hostage case. Nearby homes and the Gateway Motel, where the man was staying, were been evacuated.

Officers said they believe the suspect is armed and dangerous, and holding his girlfriend hostage.

“They heard screams through the door stating he was going to kill her. We believe she is in danger at this point in time,” Jim Gillespie, with IMPD.

Police said the man surrendered himself around 8:30 p.m. and the woman was checked out my medical personnel.
