INDIANAPOLIS -- IndyCar rookie driver Spencer Pigot crashed during practice for the Indianapolis 500 Wednesday.
Pigot hit the wall coming out of Turn 1, spinning the car a few times before coming to a rest.
Pigot got out of the car on his own power and was checked and released at the IMS Care Center.
He had just turned in a lap of more than 219 miles per hour.
NEW: There's enough damage on Pigot's #16, that he'll need to go to a backup car with a brand new engine. #Indy500
