INDIANAPOLIS -- "Star Trek" actor Chris Pine will be waving the green flag to start the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500, IMS officials announced Thursday.

"We're thrilled to welcome Chris Pine to our flag stand, where he will officially get our epic race under way by waving the green flag," Indianapolis Motor Speedway President J. Douglas Boles said in a release.

Pine is most known for his role as James T. Kirk in the 2009 and 2013 "Star Trek" movies. He's also been a leading character in "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit," "This Means War," "Unstoppable," and "The Finest Hours."

IMS officials have encouraged fans to leave at least two hours earlier than usual for the race on May 29 to avoid the traffic and crowds.
