INDIANAPOLIS -- As Indiana Pacer fans get ready to boo or cheer whoever the team drafts (or trades for) Thursday night, it's important to remember you aren't always right. Sometimes bad players get cheered and good players get booed. Case in point: Reggie Miller.

Exactly 30 years ago Thursday, Miller was drafted by the Indiana Pacers with the No. 11 pick.

When Miller's name was announced at Market Square Arena, fans booed. They wanted former Indiana University basketball star Steve Alford.

Miller, of course, ended up being (pretty unarguably) the best Indiana Pacer of all time. He holds team records for the following statistics:

  • Games played
  • Minutes played
  • Points scored
  • Field goals
  • 2-pointers
  • 3-pointers
  • Free throws
  • Offensive rating

Alford, drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in the second round, played for five seasons and started three games. He averaged 4.4 points per game.
