INDIANAPOLIS — The public transportation system of Indianapolis, IndyGo, is getting boxes of hand sanitizer and over 1,000 masks through a partnered donation between former NFL players and ProKel Mobility.
As IndyGo returns to regular weekday service on Monday, Jun. 1, riders are asked to leave space between themselves and wear a face-covering onboard.
"IndyGo serves low-income, elderly, disabled, and transit-dependent people that rely on us to access employment, services, and resources to sustain themselves and their families." Roscoe Brown, Executive Director of the Indianapolis Public Transportation Foundation, said. "To maintain these essential services and protect our operators and riders, it's important to have the proper protection, and these donations will ensure we have the materials available."
Former Indianapolis Colts, Hall of Famer, Edgerrin James, Super Bowl champion, Reggie Wayne, and former NFL player, Bryant McKinnie, helped make this donation possible with the assistance of ProKel Mobility CEO, Kelly Gonzalez, Jr.
"My heart has always been in Indy, and I am happy that people like Reggie, Bryant and Kelly are working with me to support the city and its frontline workers like they did when I played," James, the famed former running back, said. "IndyGo is the heartbeat of the city and we need to make sure the drivers and passengers are as safe as possible."
To date, McKinnie and Gonzalez have raised over $6.9 million nationwide for COVID-19 relief by way of multiple campaigns with NFL players, the Professional Football Players Mothers Association, the NFL's Players Association and ProKel Mobility. They've organized donations to over 20 non-profits across the U.S., including nursing homes, essential frontline workers, low-income support organizations, hospitals and food banks.
