INDIANAPOLIS -- Prosecutors have dropped the remaining charges against John H. Means stemming from two 2014 double murders.

The motion to dismiss murder charges in the deaths of Tyrece Dorsey and William Davis was filed on Friday. On Monday, a Marion County judge accepted the motion.

Means was acquitted of murder charges in the deaths of two other men – Carlos Jefferson and Julius Douglas – in February. The case had previously ended in a hung jury.

Marion County prosecutors had described Means as a hitman for the "Grundy Crew" – an alleged criminal organization led, they said, by Richard Grundy III.

Grundy and ten other alleged associates were charged in October 2015 with a slew of charges, including murder, racketeering and drug-related crimes. Since then, though, cases against the alleged Grundy Crew members have fallen apart due to problems with witnesses and evidence.

Four murder charges were dropped last year against Grundy III after a key witness was found to have lied to police about her identity. Prosecutors dropped charges against another alleged crew member, William Gammon III, in exchange for a plea of guilty to resisting arrest in November.

A number of alleged Grundy associates are still facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder, corrupt business influence, dealing in marijuana and criminal gang activity.  Of those, three – Anthony Tinnin, Avery Bullock and Eric David Butler – remain in custody.

Means also remains in custody at the Marion County Jail on unrelated charges of dealing in marijuana, possession of a narcotic drug and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
