INDIANAPOLIS -- The murder trial of the man accused of killing 65-year-old William “Bill” Schumacher in 2016 ended abruptly on Wednesday after the defendant agreed to plead guilty.
A jury trial on a charge of murder against 23-year-old Walter Davis began Tuesday in Marion County Criminal Court 1.
Davis was charged in September 2016 with fatally shooting his roommate, Schumacher, at their home in the 5400 block of Armstrong Court.

On Wednesday, Davis’ attorney informed the court that her client wished to change his plea in the case to guilty.
Judge Kurt Eisgruber accepted the plea and canceled the remainder of the trial.
A sentencing hearing was scheduled in the case for Jan. 26 at 11 a.m.
