INDIANAPOLIS -- A month to the day before Friday morning’s fatal shooting on Colorado Avenue, narcotics officers seized drugs, guns & body armor from the very same address.

On April 18, IMPD officers executed a search warrant at a home in the 3000 block of North Colorado Avenue.

A report documenting the incident listed officers finding 11 heat-sealed envelopes containing pills, cocaine, crack cocaine and heroin, along with digital scales covered in suspected drug residue.

As a result of the raid, police arrested a 40-year-old male resident of the home on charges of dealing and possession of cocaine, dealing and possession of a narcotic drug and unlawful possession of a firearm by a domestic batterer. He was released on April 20 on a $160,000 bond.

It was that same resident who was found shot in the street Friday morning outside his home. He was transported to Eskenazi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Court records show two of the charges in the case – one count of dealing in a narcotic drug and one count of possession of a narcotic drug -- were dismissed on Wednesday. The victim was scheduled for a jury trial on the remaining charges on Aug. 7.

The incident report documenting Friday morning’s shooting notes two vehicles and a neighboring home were struck by gunfire. Police reported finding more than 30 spent bullet casings in the street near the victim.

Police said a suspect in the shooting was taken into custody. The suspect's identity was not immediately released.
