INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana State Police believe a shootout between two vehicles resulted in numerous cars being struck by gunfire near I-465 and Shadeland Avenue Monday night.

Just before midnight, troopers were called out to the east side of Indianapolis on a report of shots fired.

They arrived to find a vehicle with a bullet hole in the rear door and a broken back window. Two other vehicles were also found to have bullet holes in them.

ISP investigators said they believe two vehicles who were known parties to one another were the cause of the shooting. Police believe the occupants of the vehicles open fire on one another, striking other vehicles in the process.

"We don't believe this was a random attack of people shooting at cars,” ISP Sgt. John Perrine told RTV6’s newsgathering partner WIBC. “We believe this was a targeted attack at another individual.”

No injuries were reported as a result of the shooting.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
