GREENWOOD — A family's handicap accessible van was stolen out of their driveway overnight.

Patrick Parson woke up early this morning to go to work. When he went outside to get into his car, he realized his van was gone.

"It was a bit of a shock. Kind of surreal at first," said Parson. "Like, this is not really happening. And then anger, because this is Tyler's only mode of transportation."

Parson's son, Tyler, has muscular dystrophy and uses an automatic wheelchair to get around. Their handicap accessible dodge caravan helps them tremendously.

But last night, someone stole it right out of their driveway.

"My mom told me my van was stolen and at first I thought she was joking," said Tyler Parson.

"Whoever took the van, obviously when they got inside, realized it wasn't a normal passenger van," said Tyler's dad. "The ramps on the side of the door. There's no seat in the middle. So they had to realize that this was not just a typical van and they've taken his freedom away from him."

The family has reported the van stolen to the Greenwood Police Department. And says it would cost them about $70,000 to replace.

"We don't know. We're not sure what we are going to do if we don't reclaim the van, or the van doesn't get returned. We don't know yet," said Parson.

Somehow, Tyler believes it will turn up.

"It comes down to you just got to have faith, and we do. We have faith in God, so everything is going to work out the way he wants it to," Tyler says.

If you see a red Dodge Caravan, with the plate number D263QD, please report this to the Greenwood Police.
