NEW PALESTINE, Ind. -- A scammer, posing as a volunteer for the New Palestine History Museum, has taken to Craigslist and is asking for unwanted household items, clothing, shoes, and purses.

A post on the New Palestine Main Street and Museum Facebook page is warning residents to not fall victim to the scam.

It continues on to say that the person is trying to profit off of a recent water incident at the museum, but all its 'precious and beloved artifacts are safe and well.' The restoration cost to the museum is covered by insurance.

Michael Dean, the president of the New Palestine Main Street and Museum, says the museum did in fact experience a water issue earlier this month after heavy rainfalls. He says about 4 inches of water impacted the floors, but no other items were damaged.

The Craigslist post was made three days ago, and is still listed, as seen pictured above.

Anyone who had contact with the scammer, or who donated items, is asked to contact the New Palestine Police Department at 317-861-4225.
