HENRY COUNTY, Ind. -- An off-duty Henry County deputy shot a man after he tried to hit the officer with his pickup truck, according to Indiana State Police.
State police say the deputy was driving his unmarked car west on SR 38 around 1:30 p.m. Saturday when he saw a Ford pickup truck that was traveling was speeding and running cars off the road.
The officer lost sight of the vehicle but eventually found it parked in a driveway in the 4600 block of SR 234.
A man and woman got out of the truck as the deputy approached, but then they got back into the still-running vehicle.
State police say the man suddenly drove the truck toward the deputy and the deputy fired, hitting him.
The wounded man drove off, eventually pulling his truck into an open barn in the 7600 block of SR 234. The homeowner saw the truck and called 911.
The man, identified as Mannie Paschal, 23, of Anderson was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with what is believed to be a non-life threatening injury.
The investigation by Indiana State Police is ongoing and will be turned over to the Henry County prosecutor for review.
