INDIANAPOLIS -- A new state law taking effect on Sunday should ease some concerns voiced by property owners who live along popular trails and public parks.
The law will limit liability for homeowners who allow others to walk through their yards to gain access to the trails.
Molly Hale is one of those property owners who worked with Indiana Rep. Carey Hamilton to push for a change in the law so she could allow her neighbors access to the trail, without worrying about liability if someone were to get injured.

"Personally my husband and I feel a weight, a small weight is lifted," Hale said. "We certainly don't expect anybody to get injured on our path. But if they do, they are protected legislatively."
The law hasn’t come without objections though, some people who live off the trails are worried about privacy and safety.
