KOKOMO — A pedestrian who was struck in the parking lot of Kokomo Mall on Monday has died.

According to a report from Kokomo police, officers were called to the east parking lot of the mall around 1 p.m. Monday on report of a vehicle-pedestrian crash.

Police said a 2008 Dodge pickup truck, driven by a 25-year-old Kokomo man, struck a 76-year-old Peru woman as she was walking through the parking lot. The woman was taken to Howard Regional Health and then transported to an Indianapolis hospital, where she later died. The victim's name is being withheld pending the notification of family, police said.

The driver of the pickup truck cooperated with the crash investigation, police said. The driver was taken to a Kokomo hospital for a toxicology test, which is a standard procedure when a crash involves serious injury to a person, police said.

The crash remains under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Capt. Heath Haalck at 765-456-7286 or the Kokomo Police Department hotline at 765-456-7017.
