INDIANAPOLIS — The deadly police shooting of Dreasjon Reed is a recent incident that fractured the Indianapolis Police Department and members of the community.

Wednesday marked three weeks since an IMPD officer shot and killed Reed on the northwest side of Indianapolis.

Outside of the City-County building, people wrote messages in chalk to show their support of Reed.

Investigators say Reed led police on a chase, then exchanged gunfire with an officer when he was killed on May 6.

Attorney Fatima Johnson says the family wants answers.

"Twenty-one days since Dreasjon Reed was murdered and there are no answers; there are more questions," Johnson said. "Who killed Dreasjon Reed? Why was Dreasjon Reed murdered? The question is whether it was justified or if it was unjustified."

Days after the shooting, Mayor Joe Hogsett requested the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's Office monitor the investigation.
