INDIANAPOLIS -- The Soldiers and Sailors Monument in downtown Indianapolis reopened on Friday after flooding concerns closed it the day before.

The Indiana War Memorials Commission closed the monument on Thursday to secure the artifacts inside after a week of near-constant rainfall caused water concerns and made them aware of leaks in areas that were previously unidentified.

Artifacts inside the monument include WWII-era propaganda, art depicting battlefields from the Civil War, military uniforms from year's past, various equipment from wars America was involved in and other personal mementos from veterans throughout history.

The monument is currently on Spring-Fall hours, which are Wednesday through Sunday, 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The rainfall isn't slated to let up fully until Sunday, with 2"-4" of rain forecast to fall in some areas of Central Indiana through Friday.
