INDIANAPOLIS -- Making Indianapolis better by working together was the focus of Mayor Joe Hogsett's State of the City address Monday evening.
In his speech, Mayor Hogsett highlighted economic and job growth in the city, touting the addition of Salesforce and a billion-dollar investment from FedEx.
He also addressed the problems with crime and announced that the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is now equipped to fully utilize community-based beat policing.

"This comprehensive return to beat policing allows us to continue in our effort to stem the tide of violence that began to rise following the abandonment of beat policing in our county in 2012."
Mayor Hogsett also announced a multi-year plan to fix the city's streets and re-equip the street maintenance division.

"Beginning tonight, the era of ignoring our roads and streets is over."
As part of that plan, the Department of Public Works would be getting new, heavy equipment and hiring more workers to maintain the city's roads.
