AVON — Avon Police Department confirmed on Wednesday that the human remains found in a northern Indiana pond are that of Avon woman Najah Ferrell's.

Avon Police Department Deputy Chief Brian Nugent says that the human foot found in early April in Crown Point, Indiana has been confirmed by DNA analysis and comparison through the Indiana State Police Lab.

The foot was found by a pair of fisherman who reported to police they had snagged what "appeared to be a human foot." Responding officers did confirm that the remains found by the fisherman was indeed a human foot. Soon after, the officers contacted Avon Police Department and a search ensued by investigators.

Avon Police have been searching for Najah Ferrell, 30, since mid-March. Family members say she left for work early the morning of March 15 and never made it. Ferrell's vehicle was found March 26 abandoned in Indianapolis and some of her belongings were located along the interstate.

According to police, authorities have ensured that the Lake County Coroners Office has this report.

The death investigation of Najah Ferrell remains on-going at this time.
