LAFAYETTE:  A man accused of killing a northern Indiana elementary school art teacher has been acquitted of murder and other charges.

Authorities say Darius Printup fatally shot Kristi Redmon, 52, in October after she answered her door in Lafayette.

The then-18-year-old Printup was arrested and charged with murder.

Police believed Redmon's death was a case of mistaken identity after a witness said Printup had been looking for a man who "ripped him off."

Prosecutors had accused Printup of killing Redmon because he believed she lied to him and was hiding the people who stole the drugs.

The Tippecanoe County Prosecutor said a jury found Printup not guilty of the murder after nine hours of deliberation late Thursday evening.
