LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The fatal shooting of a Lafayette art teacher may have resulted from a case of mistaken identity, according to court documents released Monday.

Kristi Redmon was found shot to death Wednesday night outside her home on the 1300 block of Ridgeway Avenue.

Police later arrested 18-year-old Darius Javon Printup on suspicion of having committed the shooting.

In a probable cause affidavit released Monday, investigators describe an interview with a witness who claims to have been with Printup on the night of the shooting.

According to the witness, Printup said he was "looking for a male who he claimed had ripped him off." The witness said while they were in the Hedgewood Drive/Ridgeway Avenue area, Printup went to a house where a female answered the door. The witness reportedly then saw Printup shoot the woman, who was determined to be Redmon.

"Witness #1 saw Printup fire several shots at the woman with a handgun, and the woman fell down on the porch," the affidavit reads.

Printup is currently being held in the Tippecanoe County Jail without bail on a preliminary charge of murder.
