INDIANAPOLIS – Sen. Bernie Sanders made a stop in Indy during his Midwest Pickup Tour to host a job rally on Monument Circle Monday.
Sanders was joined by former United Steelworkers Local 1999 President Chuck Jones and several others with the purpose of uniting workers who felt as if Trump hadn’t kept his promises to retain jobs in the country.
"What we are doing in Indianapolis is what must happen in every state in this country and that is people standing together and demanding and economy and a government that represents all of us and not the one percent,” said Sanders.
Sanders also shared his plan to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour.
In December 2016, Trump said he was going to save nearly 1,100 of the 1,400 Carrier jobsoriginally slated to leave for Mexico, in Indianapolis.
But Trump's 1,100 jobs in total saved included over 300 corporate jobs that weren't going to leave the country in the first place.
The deal kept 730 union, production line jobs as well as 70 salaried positions in Indianapolis in exchange for $7 million in tax incentives over the next 10 years.
Trump said Jones had done a "terrible job" representing workers after he appeared on CNN to speak on employment cuts.
There was a small group of Trump supporters who attended the rally.
