INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett is promoting his effort to curb violence in the city by urging youth to apply for summer jobs.
Mayor Hogsett hopes that by putting teens on the payroll, the city can help them avoid getting into trouble.
“The very reason why a lot of our young people are running around, dealing drugs or running around in gangs is that they weren’t given opportunities for positive experiences,” said Mayor Hogsett.
This summer will mark the second year for “Project Indy,” the mayor’s youth jobs initiative that aims to employ 2,000 teens in Indy over the summer.

Indy Parks is just one of the groups involved with the project. They’re looking to hire 400 teens over the summer for jobs as lifeguards and cashiers.
