KOKOMO, Ind. -- A woman serving time in jail says she has information about the disappearance of a Kokomo teen missing since October 2016.

Renee Murphy, 49, is serving time for dealing heroin and a home detention violation but she says she’s heard things from behind those bars and she hopes some of them will help bring closure to the family of Karena McClerkin.

Karena went missing on October 11, 2016. She was last seen walking in the 1100 block of South Washington Street.

Her father, James McClerkin, told RTV6 in an earlier interview that his daughter had just made up her mind to got a rehab facility in Florida to overcome her substance abuse problem.

Murphy believes McClerkin’s drug dealer played a role in her death.

"She was supposedly caught stealing from him and he paid another individual to give her what they call a hotshot,” said Murphy. “(A hotshot) is basically bad dope, or way too much of it, so she wouldn’t survive it.”

Murphy says she was told McClerkin’s body was ditched near a pond in Kokomo. We are not giving out that location, but Captain Teresa Galloway says police are investigating Murphy’s claims and any other tips they receive about her disappearance.

"Right now, we have no live leads at this point," said Galloway. "We have investigated her call, every Facebook post. Everything."

Murphy’s tip comes after McClerkin’s family offered a $50,000 reward last week, but she says she’s not interested in the family’s money.

"I don't want their money,” said Murphy. “I just want these people to find their daughter because I can't imagine.  I don't want a dime of their money.”
