BOONE COUNTY, Ind. -- The Boone County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help to identify the person who abandoned a dog in Mechanicsburg this week.

Surveillance video shows a passenger in the car pictured above removing the dog from the vehicle and leaving it in the roadway. The vehicle then drives away.

The dog is currently in the care of the HSBC and will be placed up for adoption after being vetted.

"Animal cruelty and neglect will not be tolerated in Boone County," the sheriff's office posted on Facebook.

They ask anyone with information about the dog or vehicle involved to contact dispatch at 765-482-1412 and request to leave a message for Deputy Fisher. Information can also be emailed to animalcontrol@co.boone.in.us.
