BOONE COUNTY — One of the men charged for his role in the March 2018 murder of Boone County Deputy Jacob Pickett is expected to change his plea Friday.

John Austin Ball is charged with murder in Pickett's death, along with multiple drug-related charges.

According to court documents, Ball has a change of plea hearing scheduled for 8 a.m. Friday. His trial is set for April 28, 2020.

Pickett was fatally shot while assisting with a pursuit on March 2, 2018.

Anthony Baumgardt was sentenced to life in prison in May. Baumgardt likely avoided the death penalty by agreeing to plead guilty to the murder, along with charges of resisting arrest and possession of methamphetamine.

John D. Baldwin II was also charged in Pickett's death and will go on trial in April 2020.
