Police: Man arrested in connection with mother's homicide

INDIANAPOLIS -- A 34-year-old man was arrested after his mother's body was found inside a townhome on Indianapolis' east side.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the Chatham Walk townhomes in the 8000 block of E. 20th Street Wednesday morning. 

Inside, they found 54-year-old Patricia Bassey dead.

Investigators believe Bassey and her son, 34-year-old Gabriel Bassey, were involved in a disturbance the night before. Police say it became physical and resulted in Patricia's death. The Marion County Coroner's Office says Patricia died of blunt force trauma.

Gabriel was arrested Wednesday afternoon on a preliminary charge of murder.
