INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indiana Department of Transportation says it has fixed traffic light timing after Call 6 Investigates exposed issues that were causing a traffic gridlock in downtown Indianapolis because of the increased traffic from the I-65 construction.

Last week, people fed up with the timing of the traffic lights along 11th Street and the gridlock traffic that was doubling and tripling their commutes turned to Call 6 for help.

Call 6 Investigates took their concerns to the city and the state.

The Department of Public Works initially said that changing the timing of those lights would have "marginal benefit" to drivers.

But INDOT says after reviewing concerns and the signal timing they decided to make some adjustments to help get traffic moving better. They said their initial sequence was based on the first week of I-65 construction, which included the July 4th holiday and far less traffic than a normal workday.

INDOT says the traffic lights along 11th Street have now been corrected to actually work together, instead of against each other.

Construction on I-65 is expected to be completed sometime around the first week of August.
