INDIANAPOLIS — Tis the season for lots of online shopping, which means packages being left at your front door and more chances for thieves to make their moves.
One homeowner in Perry Township captured video of a woman he says stole a package that was meant to be delivered to him right off his front porch.
Jason Cicenas says he got a notification on his phone that someone was at his front door, but when he opened the camera up, he couldn’t believe what he saw.
The unknown woman picked up a package that had been delivered to Cicenas’ house and walked off with it.
Inside the box was a Christmas gift for Jason from his wife.
“When I saw that, it busted me,” Cicenas said. “It broke me down because that’s something that my wife gave me.”
Cicenas is sharing the video in the hopes that someone will recognize the unknown woman, or her vehicle, and help police identify her.
“Hopefully this person gets caught and this takes one person that does this off the streets and it prevents another family from feeling like I do right now,” Cicenas said.
If you are having packages delivered this holiday, there are steps you can take to help protect yourself from becoming a victim.
The US Postal Service says you can request to have your packages held at the post office.
If you want to know exactly when your package arrives and it’s coming from FedEx, you can request your driver to knock on your door or ring the doorbell instead of just leaving the package on your porch.
You can also make those requests from Amazon. The company also recommends using their Amazon lockers and requesting photos on delivery.
“I just hope that this gets solved and she gets put away,” said Cicenas. “Christmas spirit’s still going strong though, I got three young girls so they’re very excited to see Santa.”
If you recognize the woman in Cicenas’ video contact IMPD or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
