JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. --- As we celebrate the official first day of summer, people down in Johnson County are celebrating the great work local nonprofits do in their community by giving back. They are making every minute of the longest day of the year count by collecting donations for local organizations.

The Johnson County Community Foundation is rounding up businesses and nonprofits for a day of giving on the Summer Solstice. This special one-day fundraising event allows individuals, businesses, and JCCF the opportunity to support seven local nonprofit organizations that are helping meet the needs of Johnson County.

Kim Minton with JCCF says that all of the money raised today will be proportionately matched up to 60,000 dollars.

"Giving Day will provide a platform for these participating nonprofits to share their stories, connect with new donors and become skillful in digital fundraising," Minton said. "They will gain knowledge that will help them build capacity for their organization, develop stewardship and grow their donor base."

It's a day to challenge the community and local businesses to help the organizations that provide direct services to the people in the county.

Local restaurants are participating in a "dine to donate" fashion all day long. Participating local restaurants in Johnson County include Applebee's Franklin and Greenwood, Chicago's Pizza Franklin, Bob Evans Franklin, Firehouse Subs Franklin, Buffalo Wild Wings Franklin, Tried and True Greenwood, and Hot Box Pizza Greenwood.

Rise and Roll offered a donut drive-through for donations. And JCCF is offering several activities on the Johnson County Courthouse lawn throughout the day including yoga.

The day will conclude at JCCF with a dunk tank, food, drinks, music, and activities for the whole family.
