CAMBY, Ind --The wait is over at Morgan County’s North Madison Elementary.

Ten ducklings were hatched at the Camby school and have taken up residence with their mother at a nearby pond.

This story, as told by Principal Stephanie McGaha, began in April when mom flew into the school’s courtyard and set up housekeeping in a tiny pond there.

School staff soon noticed eggs in a nest and for one-and-a-half weeks, mom didn’t budge.

The eggs hatched and the school had ten ducklings on its hands.

A much larger pond just north of the school seemed like a logical place for the babies, but how would they get there?

A cardboard chute was made and the ducklings were herded through the school.

Mom was waiting outside and took charge of her new family, leading them to a creek that feeds into the pond.

As for the students at North Madison, it was a real-life lesson in how nature works, while mom has a new family just in time for mother’s day!
