15-year-old arrested in murders of teen siblings at Indy apartment complex

INDIANAPOLIS — A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the murders of two Indianapolis teens last week.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to the apartment complex in the 4100 block of Windhill Drive just before 7:30 a.m. Friday, August 23.

Arriving officers found two juveniles dead inside the apartment suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The two were later identified as Ashlynn Nelson, 15, and her brother, Nicholas, 16.

As officers arrived Friday morning a male ran from the scene and led police on a foot pursuit. IMPD SWAT, K-9 officers and the IMPD Drone joined the search and attempted to locate the suspect but he was not found.

IMPD later released several images of the person believed to be a suspect in the murders.

On August 26 just afater 12:30 p.m. IMPD homicide detectives arrested a 15-year-old boy for his involvement in the homicides. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will review the case and make a decision on charges. Because the suspect is a teen and he has not been charged as an adult, his identity will not be released at this time.
