MUNCIE, Ind. -- A former Muncie volleyball coach already facing allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor was charged in federal court Wednesday in connection to a second alleged minor victim.

Nolan Brand, 24, was arrested in December 2017 after a 15-year-old girl and her mother went to police, saying Brand had sexually abused the girl. The victim told police she and Brand had sex in September, and that he threatened to blackmail her after she ended the relationship, according to the document.

Police viewed messages from Brand on the victim's phone, talking with the girl about her 15th birthday, the document states.

When police interviewed Brand, he admitted to having sex with the girl more than 12 times. He also gave police access to his phone, which contained videos of sexual acts between the two.

At the time of his arrest, Brand was an assistant coach for the Muncie Central High School volleyball team and a coach for the Munciana Volleyball Club.

On Dec. 19, federal investigators obtained a search warrant to forensically review Brand’s electronic devices. It was on a Samsung tablet he owned that investigators say they found multiple sexually explicit images of a second apparent minor victim.

Investigators contacted the second victim, now an adult, who told them she had been in a relationship approximately four years earlier when she was 15 or 16. She said Brand knew she was a juvenile at the time and “regularly asked for her to take pictures of herself in her underwear or nude.”

“He liked his girlfriends on the young side,” the girl told investigators.

At the time of Brand’s alleged relationship with the second victim he was working as an assistant volleyball coach at Wapahani High School in Selma, Indiana.

On Wednesday, federal prosecutors charged Brand by criminal complaint with sexual exploitation of a child over the images and videos discovered of both minor victims.

Under federal law, Brand faces a prison term of 15 to 30 years in prison if found guilty of sexual exploitation of a child.
