Death of man who showed up at Indy hospital with gunshot wound ruled homicide

INDIANAPOLIS -- A man is dead after showing up at an Indianapolis hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound Sunday afternoon. 

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers say the man showed up at the Community North Hospital just before 8 p.m. and was admitted in critical condition.

He died a short time later. The man has been identified as James Slaughter, 20, according to the Marion County Coroner's office. His death has been ruled a homicide.

Police believe the shooting happened in the area of Biscayne Road and Bel Air Drive but the circumstances surrounding it remain under investigation.
