INDIANAPOLIS -- Three people were arrested after somebody fired shots at an IMPD officer Tuesday morning, police say.

The shooting happened after officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were conducting an investigation related to a violent target at around 11 a.m. near the intersection of 21st Street and Mitthoeffer Road, IMPD Deputy Chief Chris Bailey said.

An undercover officer was following a vehicle, somebody from inside fired shots at the officer. The officer's vehicle was hit, but the officer was uninjured. No civilians were hurt.

"It's very dangerous situation for anybody to fire a weapon randomly out of a car in a residential neighborhood with people driving by, school buses driving by and people just wanting to live a peaceful life in their house," Bailey said.

Detectives arrested 18-year-old Cameron Davis for attempted murder, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and carrying a handgun without a license. 19-year-old Rasoull Alexander was arrested on an unrelated warrant.  The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will review the case and make a charging decision.

The third person arrested was released, according to a spokesperson for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
