Man found in car on Indianapolis' northeast side identified

City's first murder in almost three weeks

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Marion County Coroner's office has identified a man whose body was found in a car Tuesday night on Indianapolis' northeast side.

Officers were called to the 3300 block of Schofield Avenue just after 6:30 p.m.

Police initially said the man had been shot, but said Wednesday that was not the case and the cause of death is being withheld for investigative reasons.

The Marion County Coroner's office says the victim was James Matthews, 22.

His death is the first homicide in Indianapolis in almost three weeks.The last homicide was on February 1, when a man was found shot to death on a porch on Indianapolis' near-east side.
